- Organasm Relapse

This disc is absolutely phenomenal and very technical
metal. Not that pansy-ass technical power metal or
other such shit --this is extremely heavy, extremely
technical, and extremely good. This is high on my
list for "Metal Album of the Year" for sure.
Alchemist
hail from somewhere down under and take metal to areas
it hasn't been before. These guys are all over the
place, from crushing rhythms to complex layers of
sound to astonishing solo work. The vocals are all
over also, from nice and sweet to black metalish vocals
to absolutely crushing vox. Shit, I even like the
keyboard work on this disc and the bands that use
keyboards that I actually like are few and far between.
The opening track, "Austral Spectrum", along
with the 3 part epic, "Evolution Trilogy",
are the highlights of this disc for me. The beginning
of "Austral Spectrum", with just a lone
djireedoo, (I bet my spell check can't tell me if
I got that fuckin' word right), that gets layered
over with keyboards and guitars and drums until it's
just this massive slab of sonic power that is one
of the best openings to a metal CD I've heard in a
long time. Especially in this age where it seems every
fuckin' band I hear starts all their albums (and in
some bands this happens on every damn song) off with
samples from "B" movies, war movies, and
Quentin Tarantino movies. Oh hell, here's a rant.
Enough with the samples you bastards; just quit it.
It gives nothing to most songs and it's just a way
to make your CD look longer than it actually is. No
more goddamn Pulp Fiction samples! No more! If your
band uses a damn sample from that movie and you send
it to me I will hunt you down. I will have to kill
you. I swear. Just stop it now; it's about as gay
as covering 80's pop songs. Oh yeah, most bands do
that now too. Back to Alchemist ... I want everyone
who reads this to check 'em out. This CD is absolute
perfection from beginning to end. These guys are setting
new standards for heavy music and I guarantee ten
years down the road you'll see these guys worshipped
by the metal masses like people revere Death today.
They are the future of metal music. Total Running
