Recording Information
After touring of the Spiritech CD, Alchemist decided to do a cover version of Jeff Wayne's Eve of the War from the War of the Worlds album. 1998 marked the 20th anniversary of the original album and the 100 year anniversary of the book. This seemed perfect to Alchemist and the Eve of the war CD was born. The band digitally recorded a live set to a packed house at the Gypsy Bar in Canberra and mixed it with techno guy Chock. (2 live tracks for the EP) Shortly after the band returned to Backbeach studios with DW Norton to record the main track Eve of the War 2 days later the track was finished. Pod People guitarist Josh joined in on the track and performed it several times with the band. Alchemist experimented with re-mixing Yoni Kunda using techno stuff (You can tell it's our first go!). Eve of the War is Alchemists only EP to date, and sold well throughout Australia. Once again Shock records failed to support the band, even with strong radio play and sales, Eve of the War was not supported by it's own label. Alchemist would now never give any new material to Shock. The only way out was to give them Jar of Kingdom as their final album.
