Recording Information
After recording a demo at 2XX studios in Canberra the band drove to the hills of Byron Bay to record Spiritech their third studio album. More comfortable surroundings and awesome accommodation proved inspiring for the recording of Spiritech, a week later the band headed down south to Sydney to mix at “Charring cross Studios”. After a few days of mixing Alchemist knew they had a problem, The music was to complex to be mixed in an analogue studio and a change in engineer was needed. The band was forced to borrow more money and enlisted the services of Richard Norton guitarist of Superheist and young engineer/producer. Back Beach studios in Vic was the place were Spiritech was salvaged. Alchemist and newly named DW. Norton finished the job on time and the band was happy with the record. Spiritech was very popular in Australia and raised the band to a new level. The music is an evolution in production and song writing and shows a more matured band. The continued failure of shock records to exploit the bands music overseas even with considerable interest was starting to become frustrating and Alchemist knew that they needed to work with a better label.
