arrived at Backbeach the first few days of
the year in 2003 to record the new material,
again with DW Norton. This time he had a young
apprentice 'Action Sam'. The tracks were laid
down both day and night, the whole session
lasting over two weeks. The band then returned
home to Canberra to face the firestorm that
destroyed over 400 homes. The band returned
to the stages of Australia in April supporting
the mighty Opeth on their first Australian
tour. The shows were all sold out and the
tour was awesome. Austral Alien was released
here by Chatterbox and later internationally
through Relapse. Triple J radio picked up
the album in Australia and the band gained
the best press of its career by far Internationally.
Alchemist continued to play throughout Australia
playing shows headlining gigs, plus supports
with Superheist and Skinlab, finally ending
with MFTB 03 in Canberra. Alchemist recruited
Nick Wall to play live samples with them.
Nick has accompanied the band on all the shows
since the Austral Alien CD launch in July
2003. |
