| While
Alchemist did exist as a high school band
and record a demo prior to 1990. It is 1990
that Adam and Rod established the modern Alchemist
sound and the year Alchemists first demo tape
'Demo 90' was released - recorded at Sound
Barrier Studios in Sydney by Dave Boyne. Demo
91 sold well in Canberra and enabled the band
to perform successful shows in Canberra, which
had at the time a huge underage music scene.
Civic youth Cafe was a thriving venue and
Alchemist proved to be a major crowd puller.
Alchemist also played their first over 18's
show at the Stockade bar in Canberra as well
as Jaggers Nightclub with local heavyweights
and Alchemist hero's Armoured Angel. Other
Canberra bands to emerge around this time
were Exceed and Precursor. Demo 90 also raised
the bands profile overseas in underground
zines and tape trading circles as the band
aggressively promoted the demo, writing also
began on Alchemist's next Demo. |
