| 1991
the departure of James on bass and the recruitment
of John Bray from Exceed for the job, after
intense writing sessions 'Demo 91' recorded
at Powerhouse Studios by John Hersc. Demo
91 was a great recording and pushed Alchemist's
popularity in Canberra and the rest of Australia
gaining good reviews and showcasing the bands
original sound. Alchemist had become a headlining
act in Canberra regularly playing and filling
to capacity their new favorite venue the Terrace
Bar. The band were also making contacts interstate
and bringing class metal acts to Canberra,
which only made the thriving local scene even
better. 1991 also saw the band performing
interstate with their first trips to Sydney,
Melbourne and Brisbane performing with the
likes of Sadistic Execution and Mortal Sin
then returning home for the first Metal for
the Brain event at the ANU. Metal for the
Brain 1 was only 6 bands but at the time was
a huge event. Alchemist had no idea how much
the show would grow and later rely on their
involvement to operate. Overseas interest
also grew with the release of Demo 91 with
the band receiving positive reviews and interest
from all over the world especially Europe. |
